Established in 1855, Elmira College is a private liberal arts college and is one of the oldest colleges still in existence that granted degrees to women equivalent to those awarded to men. The Collegiate Gothic and Victorian style architecture easily makes the campus stand out in terms of architectural beauty. In addition to its many disciplines, Elmira College is one of only two centers in the world for Mark Twain studies.

Be sure to visit Mark Twain’s Study, the exact place where the renowned author wrote many of his most famous works, including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. For picturesque park adventures, head over to Sperr Memorial Park or Newtown Battlefield State Park. Other places worth a visit include Arnot Art Museum, National Soaring Museum, and Clemens Center. A day, or even weekend trip to New York City is also highly recommended. Some of the best restaurants include Lib’s Supper Club, Hill Top Inn, M & M Red Hots, Turtle Leaf Cafe, and StarLite Room.
