Founded in 1787 by Hugh Henry Brackenridge as the Pittsburgh Academy, the University of Pittsburgh is a research university situated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There are currently about 29,000 students enrolled here, with around 3,500 being international students. The school is famously known for being the site where the Polio vaccine was developed and discovered by Salk and his researchers in 1955.
